People from all around the world celebrate the day of June 27th. Though it is not a listed holiday, to those who actually knows what it stands for, it is invigorating.

"Chopped and Screwed". This is the art of slowing down one record on one turntable while simultaneously having the same record on another turntable at a delay so as create a repetition. Robert Earl Davis Jr. "DJ Screw" is the legendary pioneer of this tactic who'm created a new culture through it. Here are some facts about DJ Screw, the Screwed Up Click, and the true meaning behind the June 27th memorial.

1. Screwed Up Click (S.U.C)

Dj Screw is the general with an entourage of soldiers. These soldiers include the likes of Big Moe, Big Hawk, Z-Ro, Lil Keke, Fat Pat, Lil O, Lil Flip, Trae, Devin The Dude and many more. As any great leader, his vision was passed down to his soldiers as an inheritance, which they unleashed throughout every work of art created. Their priority purpose was to inform the black community to rise and elevate, with an emphasis on it being a better way. Remember the song, Wanna Be A Baller?

2. Reasoning Behind Chop & Screwing Music

There are those that may listen to chopped and screwed music and may think that it is "ruckus". Those are the same people who judges books by their cover rather than reading the analogues or summary. Screw, which is the slowing down of music, gives the listener the ability to really hear and visualize the message the artist is potraying. Chop, which is the repetition of a certain phase or word, serves as an anchor which one needs to pay attention to. It also gave The South their own style in the 1990's, where hip-hop was being viewed dramatically throughout the East and West Coast.

3. Meanings Embedded Within Songs

Each artist has their way of relaying usefull and important messages while simultaneously creating a good musical vibe. For instance, Maintain by Big Hawk and Z-Ro relays the message of the everyday struggle to survive by merely maintaining. It tells us to keep on carrying on, and that better days are coming. Anythang by Devin The Dude relays the message that though you have problems, it could be worse and one should be grateful for what they have.

4. June 27 Mixtape

Since this was pre-cd player and post-record era, cassette tapes were the go to. It evolved into the Walkman era, allowing users to play tapes on the go. June 27th grey tape was created on this day in 1996, 21 years ago. For the 90's babies growing up in the south, it holds as a trophy, being the bmost recognizeable tape to this day. It was rapper Big DeMo's birthday, and he celebrated by being having a big freestyle party at DJ Screw's house. He joined Big Moe, Key-C, Yungstar, Big Pokey, Haircut Joe and Kay-Luv on 35 minute masterpiece.

5. "For Us By Us"

Platinum FUBU which stands for, For Us By Us, was wore a tremendous amount of time amongst the Screwed Up Click. Likewise, their music was written for us by us, letting us know that they are just like us. They feel our pain, our struggles, our hustle, and what merely makes it us who we are, and put it in a poetic art form. They say what we are not able to put into words ourselves but definitely can relate to and feel iin our souls. The Screwed Up Click alliance was seen wearing Platinum FUBU on several occasions and even announce in some songs that they would rather wear that than Tommy Hilfiger.
